GRANTS: 2014 - 2015
2015
PPG / GAP: EPA Environmental Programs Grant for Tribes
GOALS:
- Improve water quality on a watershed basis;
- Maintain / operate 2 Continuous Data Recording (CDR) water quality monitoring stations
to protect water quality;
- Maintain database management of TEPA’s water quality data
- Conduct macro invertebrate sampling of local tributaries to determine sources of
non-point pollution;
- Conduct nutrient studies of the Trinity River to discover potential of formation
of harmful blue-green algae that may release cyanotoxins into the water column to
support clean and safe water for the community;
- Conduct public outreach to raise community awareness of local environmental concerns.
PPG CWA 319 Base: Burned Trailers Project
GOALS:
- Develop remediation (cleanup) plan & determine amount of pollution that will be eliminated
from the environment and nearby water sources’
- Clean up the sites to remove the threats to public and environmental health;
PPG CWA 106 SWPP: (Source Water Protection Projects)
GOALS
- Protect clean and safe water for drinking, recreation, and ceremonial use
- Enhance research and implement water monitoring techniques to safeguard water quality;
U.S. Dept. Of Interior’s Division of Energy and Mineral Development (DEMD)
Study to determine feasibility for generation of hydroelectric power on the reservation
- Report submitted 2/17/15 to DOI, Office of Indian Energy and Economic Development
Division of Energy and Mineral Development
2014
PPG / GAP: Planning and Building Environmental Protection Capacity
GOALS:
- Continue to update and revise Tribal Water Quality Control Plan (WQCP);
- Continue monitoring and evaluation of water temperatures of lower Trinity River;
- Continue to monitor and report air quality data;
- Implement the approved Solid Waste Management Plan;
- Develop a plan to remove solid wastes from the Trinity River;
- Enforce compliance with Tribal and TEPA Ordinances;
- Conduct lead-based paint inventories on existing structures and continue to monitor;
- Complete final draft for Drought Contingency Plan.
PPG CWA 106 SWPP: (Water Pollution Control)
GOALS:
- Implement Continuous Data Recording (CDR) Water Quality Program for monitoring selected
areas of the Trinity River;
- Maintain database management of water quality data;
- Macro-Invertebrate Sampling (Water Quality Indicator) of seven reservation tributaries
to determine stream habitat impairment from non-point sources;
- Conduct flow/Suspended Sediment Sampling and measurements at Trinity River monitoring
stations.
- Continue to monitor water temperatures, water levels, and water flow volumes.
PPG CWA 319 SWAP: Storm Water Runoff Assessment)
GOALS:
- Identify and locate the number of Highway 96 stream crossing areas;
- Quantify the annual amount of road surface runoff into the Trinity River;
- Secure agreements with other entities to mitigate the damage;
- Design drainage systems to prevent direct discharge of storm water into the river.
CWA 319 - SUPPLY CREEK LANDSLIDE STABILIZATION PROJECT:
GOALS:
- Mediate and repair massive landslide caused by torrential rains - Supply creek covers
over 10,000 acres and is a major tributary to the Trinity River, supporting spawning
runs of Coho and Chinook salmon;
- Mediate excess sedimentation discharge and mud flows resulting from the landslide
and flowing into the river;
- Reduce impacts from the landslide to safe and clean drinking water.
